Changing the world one random act of kindness at a time.

When we think of struggling families and hungry children, we might imagine a crowded and noisy city where people easily fall through the cracks and struggle unnoticed within a large social system. But the truth is that there is need everywhere in the world — even in places you might not expect. Through your generous support of last year’s E4K event, which funded our #RANoHungryChild initiative, we have been able to help hungry children in many different parts of the world.

Deep in the Pacific Ocean, northeast of Guam, you will find a chain of islands collectively known as the Northern Mariana Islands. Though the islands may look like a paradise, they are not immune to scarcity of food for struggling families. Our Events Manager Alex Vincent connected with two organizations in the area who provide assistance to hungry children and families — The Salvation Army and Karidat.

Salvation Army logoMany of us are familiar with The Salvation Army, particularly at the holiday season when volunteers ring bells and collect donations from holiday shoppers. The Salvation Army is a faith-based organization that assists over 25 million people annually in the United States alone, and serves in 130 countries around the world. Karidat is a social services organization which is an outreach of the Catholic diocese of Chalan Kanoa. Their mission is threefold: to serve those in need, to advocate for justice in social structures, and to encourage others to do the same. Along with feeding hungry families, Karidat also advocates for victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, and violent crime. They provide a variety of services and support to help people regain control of their lives.

Through your generosity, Random Acts was pleased to contribute $1,000 each to these organizations in order to help them continue their mission and serve struggling families in their community. Specifically, this financial support helped supply meals prepared and served by The Salvation Army and restock Karidat’s food bank. Thank you for helping us support these and other organizations who work tirelessly to improve people’s lives.
