Working in partnership with GISHWHES, Random Acts has discovered a family that has suffered extreme hardship. Together we’re helping them out. Here’s their story.
He discovered the love of his life in high school and immediately knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. What he didn’t know is that his sweetheart would shortly be diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. Undaunted and confident that love could overcome all, he proposed to her. She said yes.
They happily started to build a life together, which soon provided their first bundle of joy, a son. It wasn’t long before that son was diagnosed with autism.
He stepped up and got a second job. But, between medical bills and the costs of raising a child, he and his wife began to struggle financially. Finally, he came to the realization that further help and support was needed and they moved to be close to his parents. He joined the army to work toward a better future for his wife and son. Soon after, they had another joyous event and welcomed their second son into the world. This physically strong, highly motivated, young father of two was attached to Special Forces and deployed to Afghanistan.
However, during his tour in Afghanistan, he was wounded and his life was changed forever. He lost both of his legs, has limited use of his right arm and other serious medical complications. He’s also dealing with the psychological impacts of the trauma he suffered.
After spending two years in the hospital recovering, he was finally able to go home. He and his family moved into his parents’ house after they generously offered to move into their renovated garage. Amidst all of these new physical, psychological and housing challenges in their life, he and his wife have been blessed with a ray of sunshine: a new baby is on the way!
A generous organization has secured the land and building materials to begin building a new home for this young man and his family. This is wonderful news, and we want to make it even better! This newly constructed home will need furnishings, linens, appliances, entertainment systems, and toys.
The recent Greatest International Scavenger Hunt The World Has Ever Seen (GISHWHES) included a hunt item to help this family. The hunt is over now, but Random Acts and GISHWHES are continuing to work together to help this family. Read about the latest updates here.
