Changing the world one random act of kindness at a time.

Everyone gets the jitters when it comes to significant life changes — even four-legged friends. This past December, after hearing that a friend was making the move to a new home and that the family dog, Reggie, had trouble adjusting to new situations, Random Acts staffer Tracy took action to ensure that Reggie’s big move would be as comfortable as possible.

“My friend and her fiancé will be closing on their very first house [soon] and moving in the following week,” Tracy said, after pitching the idea for Random Acts’ official 12 Acts of Kindness campaign that month. “The last time she moved somewhere, it took her dog Reggie a year and a half to get comfortable in the new place, so she’s been stressing about how to introduce him to the new house.”

After a little digging (no pun intended) and research, Tracy discovered the ADAPTIL (DAP) Dog Appeasing Pheromone Electric Diffuser, which emits and imitates the pheromone present in a mother dog’s milk designed to appease anxious puppies. According to the company, the diffuser acts as a soother, helping dogs adapt to new environments. Eager to help her friend, Tracy used her Random Acts allotted funding to purchase three of the diffusers, and delivered them to Reggie’s family soon after.

“I gave [my friend] the diffusers when I saw her at work a couple of days later,” Tracy wrote later. “The dog had been having a pretty rough time adjusting … [but] they seem to be helping! She says [Reggie] loves them.”

As Reggie adjusts to the move, it’s a sure bet that the new diffusers will allow him to grow and learn to love his new home, free of anxiety and worry. Of course, that just means more excited hugs and kisses for his family — and that’s a win for everyone.
