Changing the world one random act of kindness at a time.

Jess is a promising student who will attend James Cook University in Cairns, Australia. Despite having a challenging background, she became the only senior student from her village to be accepted to a university. The community rallied to help in a truly lovely way, since funding her education would be an insurmountable feat for her family. She will stay with her grandparents to reduce costs, but her village realized that she still has a lot of expenses ahead in her college career.

It Takes a Village

We are happy to report that the local mining company has agreed to cover all her tuition and fees. In a ceremony at the school, she won a special achievement award and received a suitcase and a full toiletry bag to help her move into the next phase of her life.

Our Fundraising Coordinator Beverley Burrows-Pym decided this would be an ideal project for Random Acts. With the donated funds, Beverley purchased essential school supplies to start off Jess’ college career.

We wish Jess the best of luck in her educational goals and in living a happy, successful life. We have every confidence in this extraordinary young lady. She plans to be a school teacher, and she says she intends to give other children the second chance she was given.

In the words of Amelia Earhart, “No kind action ever stops with itself. One kind action leads to another. … A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.”

May Jess grow many new trees.

And if you would like to grow some trees of your own, consider a donation to Random Acts. Together we can change the world one random act of kindness at a time!
