All Hell Breaks Loose 9 – Sydney, Australia
We’re headed back to Sydney, Australia! This year we are partnering with Hub Productions and fundraising for Team Mikaere. Mikaere is a little boy with Nonketotic Hyperglycinemia (NKH) and the Mikaera family are raising funds for NKH research through Joseph’s Goal.
NKH, (also known as Glycine Encephalopathy), is a rare and terminal genetic metabolic disorder. It prevents the processing of the neurotransmitter glycine, which causes seizures, low tone, severe neurological damage, developmental delays, learning disabilities, feeding disabilities and a vulnerable immune system. It’s also terminal. Most kids that survive past the first six weeks (approximately 20% of NKH children) are not expected to survive past their second birthday. It’s rare, less than 40 kids in the UK. Less than 500 in the world. And treatment is not effective long term.
