Millions of Muslims worldwide celebrate Eid al-Fitr. Marking the end of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr is a time for reflection, prayer, and celebration. As a result, many people use the holiday to spend time with family and perform charitable acts. Zahra, our Regional Representative for Pakistan, wanted to spread kindness on Eid al-Fitr by providing gifts for orphaned children and their caretakers.
Identifying a Need

Zahra is based in Islamabad (the capital of Pakistan). She knew of the Fareeda Bashir Gharana Orphanage, which is run by one family based on community donations and their own contributions. The orphanage provides education and stability for the children who live there. Zahra wanted to help them achieve their goals. First, she contacted Sumayah Noor, who works at the organization, to see what needs the group had and how she and Random Acts could help. One suggestion Sumayah had was to provide festive clothes for the children. Colorful new clothing is an important part of celebrating Eid al-Fitr. So, Zahra decided to provide the clothing requested for the children while also purchasing gifts for the caretakers who help run the orphanage.

Ultimately, Zahra bought new clothes for 18 children along with gifts for five caretakers after receiving funding from Random Acts. She and a few friends brought the items to the orphanage along with snacks for everyone to enjoy a few days prior to Eid al-Fitr. After the children wore their gifts on Eid al-Fitr, the caretakers sent Zahra a group photo to show off their new clothes! Zahra was proud to have given the gifts to the children and to the people who care for them. She told us that “I was happy to have brought joy to the kids.”
