Changing the world one random act of kindness at a time.

Times have been challenging for many recently, with charities also feeling the pressures of the pandemic. Stephanie Hill, Acts Proposal Coordinator at Random Acts, wanted to make sure the Cleveland Animal Protective League was receiving the support they needed. “[This past] year I have seen them working to try and help people in difficult situations to be able to keep their pets instead of surrendering them,” she said. “I wanted to show them and the fur babies some love.”

The Cleveland Animal Protective League

The Cleveland Animal Protective League (APL) is a nonprofit humane society located in Cleveland, Ohio. Established in 1913, they have a long history of uniting rescued and rehabilitated animals with loving families. They offer pet adoptions, veterinary care, humane investigations into cases of suspected animal cruelty, and other services. Additionally, they run Project CARE (Community Animal Retention Effort) to help pet owners retain their pets during times of hardship. Due to pandemic safety precautions, the Cleveland APL closed their physical location to the public and moved to appointment-only visits. With reduced public interaction at their location, sometimes the most visibility their adoptable dogs get is during their walks.

Bandanas and Leashes and Toys, Oh My!

Stephanie reached out directly to the Cleveland APL to better understand their immediate needs. In order to show off their adoptable pups during walks and field trips, they requested “adopt me” bandanas and leashes. Stephanie was able to order online and send the bandanas, leashes, and additional toys directly to the shelter. She received a grateful letter in response, saying how excited the team was to get such a kind donation. “I feel really great that the

‘adopt me’ leashes and bandanas may help dogs to get adopted,” Stephanie said, “[This past] year has been so hard and with so many other resources going to other great causes it did feel good to be able to remember the animals who also need love and support.”
