Random Acts pens and pins

Calling all Supernatural fans! For the first time ever, Creation Entertainment is bringing its Supernatural Official Convention to Birmingham, United Kingdom — and Random Acts is coming too! From May 4th-6th, Random Acts staffers will be hanging out in the vendors’ room at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, and we’re hoping to see you there.

How can I #GetKind in Birmingham?

Great question! As ever, Random Acts has teamed up with a local non-profit to #GetKind while we’re Birmingham. This time it’s an awesome UK-based charity called Read for Good. Act Proposals Officer Laura Hewitt and Regional Representative Rea Niessen will be at the Random Acts table all weekend, collecting monetary donations for Read for Good — as well as organizing fun-filled activities and kindness challenges.

What’s Read for Good all about?

Read for Good “provides a regular supply of brand new books along with storyteller visits to brighten up the days of children in all of the UK’s main children’s hospitals.” According to the organization’s official website, “For children in hospital, books and stories are particularly important – they comfort, distract, reassure and entertain.” Read for Good works with 30 different UK hospitals, including the nearby Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and brings books to over 100,000 children. As Read for Good explains, “Children unable to leave their beds can choose books from our specially designed mobile bookcase. Because they are brand new, the books are safe for those at high risk of infection.”

What if I can’t make it to Birmingham?

That’s not a problem — there are still lots of ways to get involved. If you’d like to support Read for Good, you can make an online donation or sponsor a youngster taking part in a Read for Good Readathon. Or you could honor the fantastic work they do by volunteering for a similar organization in your local community. However you decide to #GetKind, don’t forget to let us know by sharing your story on social media!

Whether you’ll be in Birmingham or watching from afar, be sure to follow our Events team on Twitter for all the latest updates during the convention weekend. See you soon!
