Changing the world one random act of kindness at a time.

There are only a few things that a person needs in life to survive – food, water, and shelter. But surviving and living are two very different things. To feel comfortable and secure, we need a place not just where we can live, but where we can call home.

In October 2018, an apartment building in Frome, England, caught fire, forcing several families to evacuate. Luckily, no one lost their lives (apart from one pet, sadly), but the residents did lose their homes and all of their personal belongings. It also caused a great deal of emotional distress, as one can imagine. Acts Manager Laura Hales closely followed the situation and got in touch with the residents, looking for a way for Random Acts to lend a hand. Then she met Ruth.

Ruth, one of the more senior residents, quickly found a new house to live in. However, without any of her personal belongings or much furniture, it just felt like four walls and a roof. Laura purchased a list of items, including a bookshelf, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, and other odds and ends to help the house feel more put together.

With the items delivered, built, and in place, Ruth is finally starting to feel at home in her new living situation. “This project was a real success – Ruth now finally feels like she is back in a ‘home’ rather than a place with four walls to stay,” said Laura. “She is extremely grateful for the help in her time of need.”

Random Acts is so glad to be able to help Ruth rebuild and resettle. If you know of someone who could use some kindness, Random Acts is here to make it happen. Check out our Sponsored Acts page for more information.
