It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and Random Acts is celebrating in style! This holiday season, each staff member had $150 to put towards an #RAHolidayKindness act of their choice. Although we encourage spreading kindness all year long, the holiday season is an extra special time to focus on sharing our love, time, and resources with others. We had so much fun making holiday magic happen. It only makes sense to spread the cheer with a blog series telling you all about our staff holiday acts! Let’s see what the Random Acts elves have been up to…
Welcome to the second day in our series of #RAHolidayKindness acts. Sometimes, it can seem like the events of the last year culminate to make the holiday season extra difficult. Fortunately for these families, Random Acts was able to fund a little help in making their lives easier.
Flooding in Ohio
For every year since 2016, Jette’s home has experienced flooding. After several failed attempts to repair the damage, this year’s storms caused her family’s mobile home to sink. In the aftermath, they lost nearly all of their possessions except for one laundry basket, which contained Jette’s clothing. Unfortunately, her son and husband lost all of theirs. Social Media Officer Alisha Chamat reached out to Jette to see where Random Acts could help. The first step in rebuilding was replacing some of the basics; primarily, clothing and household items. Alisha purchased Amazon and Walmart gift cards to help with the process of starting over. We wish Jette and her family a better (and much dryer) 2019!
Reading Redemption
One of the books headed Andrew’s way
Outreach Manager Kristin Lindsey had a special idea to bring some cheer to someone who could use a little kindness. Andrew is a recovering addict, currently incarcerated at a correctional facility in Florida. The holiday season is a difficult time for incarcerated men and women, especially those who may have limited family support. “Andrew made some bad choices that he is very motivated to turn around when he is released in April to a sober living facility.” Kristin says. “He’s a good kid and I think he is well-deserving of an act of kindness this winter.”
Andrew is an avid reader, so for the holiday season, Kristin put together an Amazon wishlist full of great titles. These books will be sent directly to him to enjoy. It is our hope that they help him transition to a better place in life, and that 2019 will bring better choices, and better opportunities.
