Santa Claus may live in the North Pole, but he is not the only one delivering holiday cheer this season. Last month, Random Acts Outreach Manager Kristin Lindsay partnered with Samaritan’s Purse and Discovery School to send supplies and toys to children living half a world away.
Boxing Kindness
At Discovery School in Victoria, BC, Canada, students collected items to place into shoeboxes to ship to children in need who live in Central America and West Africa. Through other donations, the school already had the means to make 50 boxes. However, Kristin and her family used Random Acts funds to provide over 600 items to create 50 more! To assemble these boxes, Discovery School hosted a packing party where 75 students came together, and each got to create a shoebox. Inside was soap, a toothbrush, a face cloth, and 
something fun and special such as a toy or game. Many students also wrote a note to the child receiving the box, making each unique and heartfelt. School staff packed the rest of the boxes, with a grand total of 100 sent across the world.
Special Delivery
The work of students and staff did not end there, as they also took the final step to deliver the shoeboxes to the local drop off depot for Samaritan’s Purse. There they were able to see pictures of shoeboxes being delivered by elephant, camel, or cart. This allowed them to see different modes of transportation used around the world! They were also able to see a map indicating the different countries their boxes were being shipped to. These countries included Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, Senegal, and Guinea. Students were part of the entire process, from start to finish. This allowed them to see and understand every step and feel good about their act of holiday kindness!
