Changing the world one random act of kindness at a time.

The sunshine came out for the #RANoHungryChild Food Drive in Milford, Virginia on Saturday, May 4. Volunteers came from surrounding states to lend a helping hand, and in all, it was a successful day! Let’s break down how everyone at the Caroline Recreational Park #gotkind to fight hunger!

Quite a Day!

Attendees came from the surrounding area and some from as far away as Pennsylvania and North Carolina to join in on the fun. Once they arrived, they had a variety of activities to choose from: bounce house, lawn bowling, yard checkers, croquet, corn hole, face painting, rock painting, and vegetable seed planting. Kids used foam pool noodles to recreate epic lightsaber battles (as the event took place on Star Wars Day, after all!). Attendees could also get their face painted by volunteers, while enjoying hot dogs and hamburgers.

While the attendees played, they had a swell backdrop of music. Jason Manns took requests and performed several of his songs, including Another Number, Soul, Crazy Love, Stand By Me and Hallelujah. In between sets, local band Dragonfly Grove kept the party going.

But while the music was rocking, there was also quiet moments. One of the attendees was an autistic young man who was there with his mother, and struggles sometimes with sound. Jason took his guitar and sat with him, playing to him gently and the crowd joined in, keeping the volume low. Jason played Wagon Wheel for him, which is the young man’s favorite song of his.

The Heart of the Matter

Random Acts supporters brought their kindness A-game, and the Caroline Food Pantry was stocked with much needed items. They were especially excited to see baby items, as those are rarely brought in. In all, over 600 items were donated to the food pantry, which will go a long way to helping the local communities. Thank you to all of those who came out to fight childhood hunger!
