Random Acts’ Rowan Meredith, Regional Lead, Canada – West, is passionate about serving the LGBTQIA+ community. Inspired to support trans and gender-variant youth, Rowan worked with QMUNITY to purchase breast forms and bras to help young folks look and feel their best.

Story of QMUNITY

QMUNITY is a nonprofit in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, advocating for the power of inclusive spaces that help everyone thrive. Accordingly, their work focuses on improving the lives of trans, queer, and Two-Spirit individuals by providing support, connection, and leadership. Amongst their many services, QMUNITY offers educational resources, counseling, support groups, and social events.

Specifically, QMUNITY’s Bra, Binder, and Breast Forms Exchange Program collects new and gently used chestwear pieces for trans and gender-variantImage of bras, breastforms, and binders inside sheer bags ranging in color (black, blue, red, white) set down on a medium brown, natural wood table. youth. Additionally, their program provides health resources discussing chestwear garments, how to use binders safely, and other gender-affirming options available to youths and adults.

Most importantly, these garments help folks affirm their gender identity in a body that makes them look and feel like their best self. This is incredibly important for emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing. With that in mind, both this program and this organization inspired Rowan.

Supporting Gender Affirmation

“There has been a lot of talk in my community recently about supporting trans youth,” said Rowan Meredith. “I wanted to find a way to make that support tangible.”

After coordinating with QMUNITY, Rowan compiled a list of QMUNITY’s preferred vendors as well as the most needed chestwear garments and sizes. Despite her best efforts, stock shortages prevented Rowan from immediately completing her act.

Nevertheless, she persevered and soon received her shipment of breast forms and bras. With COVID-19 precautions in mind, Rowan coordinated a safe drop with QMUNITY. She agreed to leave the shipment on their front step for pick-up.

Despite the bumps in the road, Rowan felt grateful to work with such an impactful organization. She felt grateful to meet such dedicated volunteers and staff along the way.
