Sometimes beneath the Christmas tree’s twinkling lights is something more important than the gifts itself: the essence of compassion, something we continually wish to channel at Random Acts through #RAHolidayKindness. This time, Random Acts Class Act & Kindness Heroes coordinator Ruby Curtis-Cowen came onboard by being involved with the Belleville, Ontario Firefighters.

Plans Changing
Initially, an idea struck with Ruby to use 93 fleece-lined socks as stockings with trinkets inside. However, as all the best plans go, time quickly slipped. For this sake alone, she put her thinking cap back on and decided on buying a much larger amount of toys for the Belleville Firefighters’ toy drive instead. Additionally, she gifted the firefighters with a coffee voucher.

Ruby’s act of kindness did not end there. Her next act was for those who unfortunately have to face this wintry Christmas out in the cold, folks currently experiencing homelessness. With groceries and around 60 books, she generously gave them things to satisfy both their appetite and their brains, as stories are often the best form of a getaway. These items were dropped off at the feeding of the homeless event run by the Not Alone Team. With two women in the foreground, this charity provides hot meals, gift cards for eateries, and other necessities. Ruby also delivered additional food to the warming center at the local church so those who were not in attendance could still have a feast.
